Mercedes has officially closed the door on bringing a V8 engine back to the current-generation AMG C63, even as the company extends V8 production for larger models through 2035.
Klaus Rehkugler, Mercedes-Benz Head of Product Management and Global Training, said, “Although the four-door C63 was a very popular car in several markets, including North America, Australia, Japan, China and Korea, we’re not planning a return of the V8 model.”

Despite ruling out the C63 V8, Mercedes is not abandoning eight-cylinder engines altogether. Rehkugler stated that strong demand in North America and the Middle East will keep V8 production alive until at least 2035 for larger models like the S-Class, G-Class, and GLE, as well as the CLE 63.

“I think you need to have a regional look at it, but the fact remains that the V8 remains very popular in North America and the Middle East. Overall, I think there’s enough global demand to keep the V8 alive for at least another 10 years, but maybe not so much in Europe with stringent CO2 regulations, which are very restrictive and punitive.”
