Bugatti is 100% interested in a manual supercar, says CEO Mate Rimac

Manual transmissions are slowly finding their way back into the supercar world, and Bugatti too wants a piece of that pie.

Bugatti CEO Mate Rimac has confirmed that he is interested in building a manual model in the future. “Yes, definitely. Definitely. I agree one hundred percent. Imagine [a] V16 with a manual. Real manual.”

That last part is particularly interesting. Rimac appears to be talking about a genuine manual transmission rather than an electronically controlled system designed to simulate the experience, similar to what Ferrari has done with the 12Cilindri Manuale.

The company has not revealed what form such a car could take. It could potentially be a one-off commission, or Bugatti could develop a manual variant based on the Tourbillon. The brand’s Solitaire program could also provide a natural home for such an ambitious project, as it focuses on highly exclusive, one-of-one creations based on production models.

For now, there is no confirmation that a manual Bugatti is actually being developed. But with Rimac openly supporting the idea, a three-pedal V16 Bugatti no longer sounds completely impossible.
