Mercedes-AMG is facing legal trouble in the US, and the issue is something as small—and usually overlooked—as a badge.
A lawsuit filed in California centres around the metallic AMG emblem embedded in the seatbacks of certain models, including the Mercedes-AMG E-Class. According to the plaintiffs, the raised metal logo can heat up under direct sunlight to the point of causing burns.
One incident that gained attention involved an owner who returned to her parked car after lunch, only to suffer a burn from contact with the badge. The woman claims that the metallic AMG emblem had become so hot that it left a visible mark resembling the AMG logo on her skin. Another plaintiff reportedly experienced a second-degree burn under similar circumstances while going to the gym.
While high cabin temperature in parked cars is pretty common—interior surfaces can exceed extreme levels under direct sun—the concern here is specific. Metal surfaces absorb and retain heat far more aggressively than leather or fabric.
The case was formally filed on August 6, 2026, in a US District Court in California. So far, Mercedes-AMG has not issued an official response. But given the seriousness of the allegations, that silence is unlikely to last.
