BMW has begun delivering the ultra-rare Skytop, one of the most exclusive cars in its modern portfolio. One of the 50 examples has already reached its owner, and in an exclusive fashion. The handover took place inside BMW Welt’s closed-door Exclusive Privacy Room, far from the usual public delivery floor.
What started as a concept at the 2024 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este quickly turned into reality after overwhelming demand from elite buyers. BMW gave a go-ahead to a limited production run of just 50 units. Beneath its bespoke skin lies the M8 platform, but the BMW Skytop stands apart with a completely reimagined design. It’s a two-door convertible featuring a manually removable targa-style roof made up of two leather-wrapped panels.
The delivery experience is just as curated as the car itself. BMW’s Exclusive package includes chauffeur transfers, a private presentation, factory tours, a museum visit and even a four-course dining experience. For those wanting more, the Exclusive Privacy Room adds a personal 90-minute handover session with the car, complete with a recorded ceremony.
BMW has kept official pricing under wraps, though estimates peg it at roughly $580,000.
BMW has also been testing the M8-based Speedtop. It will also be a limited edition model with rumoured 70 units for the whole world. Its production is said to commence by the end of this year, and deliveries are expected in 2027.
