Red Bull Advanced Technologies has taken a major step forward with its most ambitious project yet, the RB17. With testing set to begin soon, the Adrian Newey-designed 1200 bhp hypercar is shaping up to be one of the most extreme track machines ever conceived.
The Red Bull RB17 is a track-only weapon. Weighing just 900 kg, it pairs a screaming Cosworth-developed V10 with a hybrid system, delivering a combined 1,200 bhp. Of that, 1,000 bhp comes from the high-revving engine, while an additional 200 bhp is supplied by an electric motor, working through an Xtrac gearbox.

Performance claims are nothing short of outrageous. With a projected top speed of 220 mph and acceleration levels comparable to modern F1 machinery, the Red Bull RB17 is also said to outperform current Formula 1 cars on a lap, at least in simulation.
Aerodynamics play a starring role. Active aero elements allow the car to generate up to 1,700 kg of downforce. An adaptive suspension system continuously adjusts ride height, while aero surfaces reduce drag and protect the tyres at very high speeds.
