A fast, exciting pony car doesn’t need to have a big, heavy V8 up front. The new 2026 Ford Mustang RTR proves just that.

The Mustang RTR is based on the Ecoboost version. It offers hair-raising performance in an affordable package. And, it’s not just about the turbocharged 4-cylinder engine under the hood. The RTR package adds some significant upgrades over the standard model.

The turbocharged 2.3-liter 4-cylinder engine delivers 315 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque, which is the same amount of horsepower you get in the standard version. However, it is now paired with a Ford-patented, race-derived anti-lag system.

The rear subframe and front and rear sway bars are from the Dark Horse. It uses MagnaRide dampers that are designed to offer better performance while drifting. The steering gear has also been optimised for increased travel.

The brake setup comprises 6-piston front and 4-piston rear calipers from Brembo. The Electronic Drift Brake is available as standard. The car also comes with Active-Valve Performance Exhaust.

The Mustang RTR looks just as exciting on the outside as it is under the skin. It features an RTR grille with illuminated nostrils, GT front fascia, GT Performance Pack rear spoiler, RTR badging, Tarnished Dark Anodised pony and mirror caps and graphics.
