Featherweight Lotus Elise restomod puts the driver in the centre

UK-based Analogue Automotive has unveiled the VHPK Lotus Elise restomod – a lightweight sports car with a central driving position.

The makers of this Elise restomod drew inspiration from the early Elise racers, which had a single, centrally mounted driver’s seat.

Based on the S1 Elise, the restomod is said to weigh just 1,323 lbs or about 600 kg. That’s almost 300 kg less than the original Elise, courtesy of carbon fibre.

The VHPK Lotus Elise restomod has a bespoke carbon fibre body, carbon wheels and brakes. There’s only one seat mounted in the centre, which not only helps reduce weight but also improves the weight distribution.

Under the hood is a 1.8-liter K-series engine that has been heavily modified to produce 250 hp, which gives it a power-to-weight ratio of 400 hp per tonne.
