A design student from Lund University in Sweden, has designed an electric city car for Koenigsegg as part of his BA thesis project. The electric commuter-type project car is called the “Variera” and has been created by Maximilian Tyrot, in collaboration with one of the designers from Koenigsegg.

The student set off with a simple brief of designing an electric Koenigsegg in the commuter car segment, as well as the performance segment for an entry-level customer base. The Variera took design inspiration from Koenigsegg’s hypercar lineup, including the Jesko, Gemera and CC850.

Tyrot also mentioned how he could showcase his design iterations across multiple stages to the designers at Koenigsegg and receive their feedback. The project presentation showcases all the stages of the design process, including the ideation sketches, interiors, technology on-board, colours, wheel designs and the final design renders. The project also showcased a few customisable options, including a full gloss carbon-fibre configuration.

The end result is a low-slung 2-seater carbon-fibre coupe measuring 4,315 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width and 1,486 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,600 mm. The Variera features a skateboard layout with the battery positioned below the seats and fully autonomous driving capabilities.
