2017 Detroit Motor Show: Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar

Call it the AMG R50 or Project One, Mercedes-AMG’s new hypercar will be force to reckon with. The car maker has earlier confirmed its intentions to build a next-generation supercar. Now, on the sidelines of the 2017 Detroit Motor Show, Mercedes-AMG has revealed a few more tit-bits about their upcoming halo car.

A dedicated website has gone online giving us a peek into what’s coming up. The new supercar, which until now was known as AMG R50 is being referred to as “Project One”. The silhouette reveals the mid-engine supercar’s rear clam shell and a roof scoop.

Powertrain

Underneath, the Mercedes-AMG Project One will feature a powertrain from the Formula 1 world championship winning race car. The hybrid system comprising of electric motors and a petrol engine will deliver 1000-1500 hp to all four wheels. The petrol engine itself- a V6 turbo will make around 900 hp while the rest will come from electric motors. Two of these will power the front wheels while a third will power the rear axle.

The AMG Project One hypercar will see a limited production of 200-300 units. It will be revealed at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show while deliveries will commence in early 2018. In the meantime, we will keep you posted on all the updates. So, stay tuned!
