Tesla recently revealed the Roadster amid a lot of fanfare. The latest EV is loaded with many advanced technologies and bizarre features. One of them is its insane 0-60 mph acceleration time. Tesla claims it can be done in under a second. And during the reveal event, the electric sports car gave a live demonstration.
It was dramatic. As seen in a social media video, there is a suspense buildup before the Tesla Roadster launches forward. It does that so abruptly that it almost disappears from view. The run was too quick to follow properly, and the available space reportedly wasn’t enough to show the entire demonstration.
A few seconds later, the presenter, in the presence of Elon Musk, revealed the recorded time: 0.81 seconds. We don’t actually see the full run or the timing measurement in the video, though.
Tesla hasn’t disclosed the Roadster’s electric motor specifications yet, but its proposed use of SpaceX-derived rocket thrusters could explain the extreme acceleration claim. The same technology was shown lifting the car off the ground during the presentation.
