VIDEO: A 700 km Road Trip through the Pyrenees

Christophe Girod has sent us this awesome video of him and his mates driving through the Pyrenees in four sports cars.

The Pyrenees straddle the border between northern Spain and France. Nestled among these mountains are some of Europe’s finest driving roads and high mountain passes that offer breathtaking views of the surrounding areas. The drive took them over five world famous mountain passes – Aspin, Tourmalet, Soulor, Aubisque, Pourtalet. Some of these have a legendary status among Tour de France enthusiasts.

With the roads sorted out, let’s now take a look at the cars, shall we?

First up is the Lotus Elise Sport – lightweight and nimble. It may have just a 1.8-litre, 4-banger, but that makes enough grunt for a car that weighs just 914 kg. The perfect car for tight, twisty mountain roads. While, the Elise has a removable targa top, the BMW Z4 (E85) is a convertible and on a sunny day like this, who wouldn’t want some wind in their hair.

Now, we love hot hatchbacks and the Focus ST would most certainly be our weapon of choice to attack these roads. The Stage 2 kit on this car makes the experience all the more exciting. The most powerful of the lot though is the 996 Porsche 911 powered by a 3.6-litre, flat-6 cylinder engine and a throaty exhaust note to match.

Now, this is our kind of vacation.
