After years of waiting, the Tesla Roadster is finally back in the spotlight. Tesla has reopened reservations for its long-delayed electric sports car, with buyers now required to commit $50,000 to secure a place in line.
The reservation payment is split into a $5,000 credit-card charge and a further $45,000 wire transfer. It is a sizeable commitment for a car that has been talked about for years without reaching production.
Tesla will reveal the latest Roadster on October 1 at SpaceX’s rocket test site in McGregor, Texas. Rather than using a traditional motor show, the company is choosing one of its own facilities for the event.
The reveal is expected to finally bring some clarity. Tesla says it will announce the Roadster’s pricing, specifications and production targets, giving potential buyers a better idea of what they are actually signing up for.
The original reservations were opened in November 2017, meaning some customers have now waited almost nine years.
