When RM Sotheby’s announced that the first-ever Ferrari Luce – Maranello’s first EV – would be auctioned at the Monterey sale, no one would’ve thought it would beat the McLaren F1 GTR.
The Luce was estimated to fetch over $1.1 million, but in the end it went for $40 million! That’s $5.4 million more than the final price of the F1 GTR.
Given the kind of response the Luce received following its unveiling, this sale came as a surprise. No doubt, it’s special, as it will go down in history as the very first electric vehicle with a prancing horse logo. The same cannot be said about its specs, though.
The Ferrari Luce chassis no. 0 has a Madreperla Semi-Gloss exterior with matching wheels and brake calipers. The cabin is trimmed in Le Mans metallic leather in Perla, offset by subtle Grigio Corvara accents. A special plaque confirms what you’re sitting in: Ferrari’s first series-production electric car.
The Ferrari Luce is a five-seater and is powered by four electric motors (one on each axle). The front motors deliver 141 hp each, while the rears generate 476 hp each. Together, they produce 1050 hp, allowing the car to sprint from 0-62 mph in 2.5 seconds.
The proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Ferrari Foundation to support its future educational initiatives.
