Rumor: 800 HP Twin-Turbo V8 to power the 2022 Corvette C8 Z06

Gear up, everyone. A lot more power is coming to the Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray in 2022 as rumors of an 800 hp twin-turbo V8-engined C8 Z06 have surfaced now.

Automobile reports that the Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray will be getting a beefier and more powerful Z06 variant in 2022. The rumors indicate that the more potent Z06 will pack 800 hp of power and 700 lb-ft of torque. Do note that in its current form, the 6.2L V8 LT2 engine located in the middle of the sports car produces an already-astounding 495 hp and 470 lb-ft.

In order to deliver the 800 hp, 700 lb-ft numbers, a twin-turbo V8 will take over the real estate behind the seats of the mid-engined sports car. Automobile states that it’ll take another two years before the Corvette C8 Z06 lands in dealerships with the new LT7 engine based on the Cadillac CT6-V’s Blackwing unit. A host of upgrades in the chassis, aerodynamics (with a huge spoiler), transmission, suspension, wheels and tires and body (all those carbon-fiber bits) will complete the package.

If Chevrolet actually launches the C8 Z06 as per the rumors, it’ll be most powerful Z06 ever, topping the C7 Z06 which had 650 hp of power and 650 lb-ft of torque. It’ll also leave behind the C7 ZR1 in the power figure chart by a 45 hp margin.

As much as we are looking forward to the aggressive performance, we’re eager to see the aero package which the 2022 Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06 will be receiving. There are also whispers of a 10-speed dual-clutch and even a manual transmission being considered for the Z06. The latter may end up being an unfulfilled dream and may end up getting chopped on the discussions table. But hey, we can always keep our fingers crossed.
