Range Rover has finally entered the electric era with its first battery-powered version of the flagship SUV. Order books are now open in the US, with prices starting at $138,000.
The Range Rover Electric uses two permanent-magnet motors, one on each axle, producing 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque. That torque figure is higher than any previous Range Rover, while 0-60 mph takes as little as 4.3 seconds.
Power comes from a 118.5-kWh lithium-ion battery, supported by an 800-volt electrical architecture. Using a 350-kW DC fast charger, Range Rover says the battery can charge from 10 to 80% in around 22 minutes. Ten minutes of charging can add roughly 125 miles of range.
For off-roading, there is an Integrated Traction Management system that can adjust motor speed in just 50 milliseconds, helping manage wheel slip, while the Intelligent Driveline Dynamics system can direct up to 100% of available rear torque when needed.
The electric Range Rover will be offered in short- and long-wheelbase versions, with several trim levels available.
