Porsche once used Panamera Cabrio as an example of Sonderwunsch’s limits

Porsche’s Sonderwunsch division has previously used the idea of a Panamera Cabrio as an example of just how far its bespoke program could go.

According to Alexander Fabig, the program’s head, Porsche could have considered building such a car if a customer specifically requested it. However, the Panamera Cabriolet is not an active project at Porsche today.

“I often used it as an example when asked what were the limits, what we wouldn’t do, or what was possible. And for some time I used the example that we would build a Panamera Cabrio. If you are asking for it, we would do it, but we are not working on that. It’s not an active project,” said Fabig.

In other words, it was an example of what might be possible rather than a confirmation that Porsche was developing one.

The Sonderwunsch program allows wealthy customers to work closely with Porsche to create highly personalised cars. However, there are limits, particularly when safety and regulatory requirements are involved. But where those rules allow, Porsche appears willing to explore some unusual ideas.
