The Porsche Carrera GT is getting an update almost 20 years after it went out of production. Porsche and Michelin have jointly developed new ultra-high-performance tires for the V10 supercar that are said to improve the car’s overall performance and increase the level of safety.

According to Michelin, the new tires incorporate the latest technologies and rubber compounds. The structure of the high-performance tires has been optimised to enhance their performance in both wet and dry conditions.

Porsche development driver Jörg Bergmeister said, “The Carrera GT is an absolute dream car. So I’m delighted that these new tires have taken the performance of this legend to a whole new level.”

“Developing new tires for a 20-year-old car is very unusual,” says Bergmeister. “It shows how important the Carrera GT and its customers are to Porsche to this day.”

The tires are made using two different rubber compounds. Silicic acid is used on the inner shoulder to get the best compound for better grip on wet surfaces, while the compound on the outer shoulder is designed for dry surfaces. The contact patch was further optimised with thorough testing of driving dynamics and handling, some of which, was conducted on the legendary Nürburgring Nordschleife.
