Porsche has unveiled the 718 Spyder RS. The same had leaked just a day before. Essentially a Cayman GT4 RS minus the roof, this car will have the distinction of being the last 718 model with an internal combustion engine. The German carmaker will have a public debut for this car at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later this year in July. Deliveries will also commence during the same time.

Porsche 718 Spyder RS : More Details

Apart from the fully removable and manual fabric roof, Porsche is said to have made a few other changes as well. These include a compact new single layer wind deflector and sun sail combo. This tips the scales at 40.3 lbs, which is much lighter than the one is the Cayman GT4 RS. Hence the roof now weighs 16.7 lbs lighter than the 718 Spyder and 36.3 lbs lighter than the 718 Boxster.

Coming to the heft of the car, the 718 Spyder RS weighs 3,108 lbs. This is 88 lbs lower than the standard 718. The car has also been lowered by 1.18 inches and now comes with forged 20-inch wheels with an option to choose magnesium wheels as well.

Porsche has also claimed a different tyning of the springs and dampers as compared to the Cayman GT4 RS. The 718 Spyder RS instead gets a more comfortable ride as per the expectations of a convertible car owner. Owners can also choose a Weissach Package with the car. This gives it a 2018 935-derived exhaust tips, which are a homage to the 935/78 Le Mans race, fondly called the Moby Dick.

Powertrain of the Porsche 718 Spyder RS

Like the Cayman GT4 RS, the 718 Spyder RS too comes with a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated motor. This engine develops 493 HP and 331 lb-ft. of peak torque. In terms of gearbox, Porsche has equipped this car with a 7-speed PDK transmission that drives the rear wheels. A 0-62 mph timing of 3.4 seconds and 10.9-seconds timing of 0-124 mph can be achieved by the Porsche 718 Spyder RS. The top speed of the car is 191 mph. This is just 4 mph slower than the coupe.
