Onboard the Aston Martin Valkyrie as it set new Silverstone lap record
Last week, the Aston Martin Valkyrie shattered the Silverstone lap record by more than 10 seconds. The V12 hypercar set a lap time of 1 min 56.42 seconds, making it the fastest road-legal production car to lap the circuit.
Now, Aston Martin has released an onboard video of the fastest lap. The Valkyrie looks glued to the tarmac as it negotiates the fast, sweeping corners of Silverstone. It’s no surprise, as the hypercar is after all designed by aerodynamics wizard Adrian Newey. The lap record was set by Darren Turner – 3-time class winner with Aston Martin at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
The Valkyrie generates 1,100 kg of downforce, which is crucial around a track like Silverstone. The hypercar is powered by a 6.5-liter V12 hybrid that produces 1140 hp, enough to take it from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds.
Aston Martin is also preparing to enter IMSA and the World Endurance Championship (WEC) next year with the Valkyrie LMH. The car was recently put through its paces at the Daytona International Speedway.
