Nissan teases a new Nismo model – Is this the powerful version of the Skyline sedan?

Nissan has released a teaser image for an upcoming Nismo model. The picture reveals the silhouette of a car with the launch date of August 8, 2023 written below.

Could this be based on the Skyline sedan?

While the teaser image doesn’t reveal much information, on closer inspection, the silhouette bears resemblance to another Nissan model. The car is none other than the Skyline sedan. We can notice resemblance with the bonnet, windshield and the roof lines of the teaser and the Skyline sedan. Could this mean that Nissan’s performance division plans to work on the stock car and release a more powerful road-legal version of the same?

This is the 14th gen Nissan Skyline. It is nothing but the Infiniti Q50 in a different avatar. However, this car was first introduced in Japan in early 2014. The Japanese carmaker gave it facelifts in 2017 and 2019, but it is quite an old car by modern standards.

Currently, the most powerful engine in the Skyline is the 3.0-litre twin turbo V6. This is offered in the 400R variant and is good for 400 HP and 350 lb.-ft. of torque.

It is possible that Nissan might offer a Nismo variant by taking in the engine from the Fairlady Z Nismo and plonking it in the Skyline 400R. This would be the tuned variant of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 good for 414 HP and 383.5 lb.-ft of torque. Apart from the increased engine numbers, Nissan could also offer an updated chassis and new body kit.
