We had been waiting for this for a long time. In fact, its been two years since the new Ford GT was first showcased to the world. Now finally, we know everything there is to know about the Ford GT engine specifications, its weight and more importantly, its top speed.
The all-new Ford GT made its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show and was showcased in its full production-spec a year later. With the production of the new Ford GT already underway, the company has finally revealed the crucial figures.
We all know, the new Ford GT is powered by a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 engine. It’s now confirmed that the EcoBoost engine delivers 647 hp and 550 lb-ft of torque. That’s a lot of performance from an engine block the size of an F-150 engine. The car weighs at 3054 lbs or 1385 kg and has a top speed of 216 mph!
So, how does it compare with its rivals?
The new Ford GT is almost as fast as a Lamborghini Aventador which tops out at 217 mph. Engine performance wise, it can be compared with the McLaren 675LT which has 666 hp and 516 lb-ft with a top speed of 205 mph. However, a new and improved McLaren 720S is on the way which will should beat the Ford GT fair and square.
It can also be compared with the Ferrari 488 GTB which has 660 hp and 561 lb-ft from a 3.9-liter twin-turbo V8 engine. The Ferrari maxes out at 205 mph. Clearly, the new Ford GT is faster than both the McLaren and the Ferrari but what about lap times?
According to Ford, the new Ford GT laps the Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada in 2 min 9.8 sec. The 675LT registered a lap time of 2 min 10.8 sec while the 488 GTB lapped in 2 min 12.9 sec.
