Mid-engined C8 Corvette Rumored to Debut on January 14 at Detroit

The endless reel of speculation on the C8 Corvette continues as a member of the Corvette Forum claims that the supercar will make a surprise debut on January 14. The user who goes by the username Zerv02 wrote – “Surprise unveil on the 14th, stay tuned,” on the forum on January 3. Not only that, the user also claims that GM will unveil both the coupe and spider versions of the C8 Corvette on the aforementioned date, which is also the first media day of the Detroit Auto Show.

Now, there are a number of reasons why we should take the claims with more than a grain of salt. Firstly, Zerv02 is the same person who stunned the Corvette fan base a few months ago by launching the rumor that the upcoming mid-engine Corvette would have a starting price of $169,000, a figure that many experts have deemed implausible.

Moreover, GM has no press conference for Chevrolet on January 14 with the only presentation being that of Cadillac, that too on the 13th. While GM could pull off a “Ford GT” moment at the Detroit Auto Show, but with thousands of spy shots and news coverage already out, it’s more likely that the automaker would reveal the car the traditional way, with some teasers and a reveal date announced in prior.

Also, according to latest reports, the development of the car has been delayed by six months because of issues with the electrical system. Taking all this into account, a C8 Corvette reveal within ten days seems to us as nothing more than a pipe dream. But, we’d love to be proved wrong.
