Mid-Engine Ferrari Hybrid spied with Production Bodywork
What do we have here? Well, a new mid-engine Ferrari!
Ferrari recently announced that it’s working on a brawny supercar to sit above the 488 in Ferrari’s mid-engine range. Our sources have told us that the car would be revealed in private in December.
Prototypes have been testing around Maranello for quite some time now but this is the first time we have spotted the car wearing what seems to be production bodywork. It appears to have similar proportions as the 488 GTB. It has a low front scuttle and a large intake up front. It appears to have horizontal headlamp clusters.
The car might be sporting side vents similar to the 488. At the rear, there are twin exhausts and possibly an integrated spoiler. The yellow decal on the doors suggests that this prototype has a hybrid powertrain underneath.
Again, this car shouldn’t be mistaken for the 488 replacement that has also been testing around the Ferrari HQ. That car is scheduled to arrive in 2020. Ferrari has said that the new V8 hybrid will be “a real supercar in the standard segment” and will have performance to match that of hypercars. We don’t have any info about the powertrain or performance figures but we hope to unearth them soon.
While private previews will start at the end of this year, we might be able to see it in full at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
