Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series debuts at Pebble Beach
Mercedes-Benz has given the SL Roadster its Maybach treatment. The result is the SL 680 Monogram Series, which has just been revealed at Pebble Beach.
The Mercedes-Maybach SL is the poshest version of the 2-door convertible. It is available in two “design concepts” in either Red Ambience or White Ambience exterior colours. Besides a tonne of chrome, the car gets a Maybach-specific illuminated grille, headlights with rose gold accents, a chrome windshield frame, and 21-inch wheels.
The Maybach SL also gets brand-specific taillights, a new diffuser and chrome exhausts. It even has Maybach logos on the hood and the black soft top.
The interior of the car is trimmed in Crystal White Nappa leather. It has a Maybach-specific 3-spoke steering wheel, stainless steel door sills and pedal set. It is said to have a relatively quieter cabin, a retuned exhaust and a comfier suspension setup.
Powering the Maybach SL is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that delivers 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The engine is mated to a 9-speed automatic transmission, which sends power to all four wheels. It also gets rear-axle steering as standard. Mercedes claims the posh SL can sprint from 0-60 mph in 4 seconds and has a top speed of 160 mph.
