Mercedes-Benz is already developing the next-generation G-Class, and it says that the iconic off-roader will not abandon the qualities that made it famous.
Mercedes-AMG CEO Stefan Weckbach, who also oversees the G-Class and Maybach businesses, confirmed that work is underway on the new model. He stressed that preserving its identity remains a priority.

“For the G-Class, we need to make sure that it’s going to be transferred to the future, but not losing its soul,” Weckbach said. “We’re working currently on the next-generation, and we will make sure that it stays a G-Class.”
Mercedes hasn’t revealed when the new SUV will arrive or what changes it will bring. Still, Weckbach’s comments suggest the company understands that modern technology alone won’t be enough to satisfy loyal G-Class buyers.
