Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar To Be Priced at $3 Million
Mercedes-AMG just revealed the estimated price of their new hypercar. The Mercedes-AMG Project One Hypercar will cost $3 million including taxes. It will be unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show and goes on sale in 2018.
What do you get for your $3 million?
The Project One will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine derived from the W07 Formula 1 car. Combined output of the internal combustion engine and electric motors is expected to be around 1000 hp.
Also, the Project One will be all-wheel drive comprising of electric motors on the front axle. The system will use active torque vectoring called AMG Torque Dynamics.
“Our aim is for [the Project One] to be the first street legal car with an F1 engine,” Dr Dieter Zetsche.
Project One Hypercar will be street legal and despite so much Formula 1 related tech going into making it, customers will be able to run it on 98 Octane fuel like a normal car. Apart from that, it will have an all-electric range of 18 miles (30 km).
Mercedes-AMG boss Tobias Moers has confirmed that first prototypes of the hypercar have been built and are currently testing at Mercedes-AMG F1 team’s engineering facility in Brixworth, Northamptonshire.
The company plans to build no more than 275 units. They already have over 1000 applications from customers around the world showing interest in purchasing the car.
It is believed that the Project One was supposed to be showcased at a private event during the recently concluded Geneva Motor Show. No confirmation on that yet. That said, customer drives are set to kick on in mid-2018.
