This year, Koenigsegg is celebrating one of its most ambitious race car projects at Monterey Car Week. The carmaker has unveiled the limited-edition CCGT1 as a tribute to the only CCGT prototype built.
Koenigsegg had plans to enter the top-tier GT1 class at Le Mans back in the 2000s. But by the time a prototype called the CCGT GT1 Competition Coupe was ready, the project was cancelled due to changes in the homologation requirements.
The new Koenigsegg CCGT1 is based on the CC850, which pays homage to the brand’s first homologated production car – CC8S. Except for the doors and removable roof, all other panels have been redesigned. It also gets an enormous adjustable wing at the back. The car is capable of generating 800 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.
Powering the CCGT1 is a twin-turbo V8 that delivers 1280 hp on standard pump fuel and 1600 hp on E85. The monstrous engine is paired with the Light Speed Transmission (LST) and a brand-new Koenigsegg Sequential Shift (KSS) system.
Inside, the CCGT1 comes with ultra-light carbon fibre seats with six-point harnesses for the driver. The optional track package adds racing seats and six-point harnesses for both occupants, together with a race-grade fire-suppression system.
With the CCGT1, Koenigsegg has also reintroduced the “white carbon fibre” that was showcased on the Trevita in 2009.
Only 70 examples of the CCGT1 will be produced, all of which have already been allocated.
