Is VW planning to sell Lamborghini?

2 Min Read

Fresh whispers from inside the Volkswagen Group suggest that Lamborghini could once again be under review—not for performance upgrades, but as a financial asset.

Volkswagen is deep into a massive transformation. Electrification, software, and autonomous tech demand staggering investment. We’re talking tens of billions. At the same time, reports hint at drastic restructuring measures, including plant closures and large-scale job cuts. Naturally, attention has turned to the group’s most valuable brands.

Lamborghini Temerario Super Trofeo-2

Lamborghini stands out. It’s one of the most profitable names in the industry, delivering serious margins while also being a prestigious brand. That makes it a tempting option. Not necessarily a full sale, but perhaps a partial IPO—something that could unlock capital while allowing Volkswagen to retain control.

This wouldn’t come out of nowhere. The group already surprised many by selling a majority stake in Italdesign. It signalled VW’s willingness to reshuffle important assets to fund the future.

Lamborghini Urus SE Plug-in Hybrid-1

For now, nothing is official. Volkswagen hasn’t confirmed any plans to sell Lamborghini, and alternatives—like bringing in external investors for tech divisions—are also on the table.

Still, the fact that Lamborghini keeps resurfacing in these conversations says a lot. A few years ago, the idea felt impossible. Today, it feels… plausible.
