Hongqi’s $1.5 million luxury limousine Guoli is on the cards for Australia

Earlier this month, we reported that Hongqi is planning to make its way to Australia. The Chinese brand is expected to arrive here with three electric or hybrid SUVs. Now, fresh reports say that Hongqi’s AUD$1.5 million luxury limousine Guoli is also on the cards for the Land Down Under.

According to the brand’s local importer, Greentech, Hongqi’s flagship limousines – either the Guoli or the Guoy – are not off the table. “Yes, I hope. I think similar [to] Audi, the Toyota Crown, the Lexus. But only one sedan; [we have] three SUVs.”

The report mentions that an insider said, “Will the Sunflower series come to Australia? Look, I would love to see it, just because it’ll be something different on the road. Yes, the styling is going to be a little bit different – but we do have other models that are available to us.”

Hongqi’s top-end Guoli is nearly six metres long and draws inspiration from the CA770 limousine of the 1960s. It weighs more than 3.1 tonnes. Under the bonnet sits a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 285kW (382 hp) and 530Nm (390 lb ft). The large limousine has a claimed fuel consumption figure of 15.2 litres per 100 km (62 miles).

Greentech has not confirmed that the model will be sold in Australia, and the company’s comments suggest discussions are still at an early stage. For now, the flagship remains a possibility rather than a confirmed addition to Hongqi’s Australian range.
