Hennessey Venom F5 hypercar sets new 1/2 mile speed record
The Hennessey Venom F5 has set a new 1/2 mile speed record for production cars. The hypercar clocked 221.92 mph over the standing half mile, beating Rimac and Bugatti.
The record was set by Hennessey Performance test driver David Donohue at the Shuttle Landing Facility at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. The Venom F5 was 15 mph faster than the Nevera electric hypercar and 28 mph faster than its direct rival, the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport.
Last week, Founder & CEO John Hennessey jumped into the driver’s seat and clocked 219.07 mph over a standing half mile – still faster than what the Nevera and Chiron Super Sport could achieve over the same distance.
The Venom F5 is powered by a 6.6-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that develops 1817 hp @ 8,000 rpm and 1,193 lb-ft of torque @ 5,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear axle via a single-clutch semi-automatic transmission.
The Venom F5 has been built to reach speeds in excess of 300 mph. We hope to see it break the ultimate speed record for production cars soon.
