Two people were killed at the Nurburgring in a car crash this Wednesday. According to Merkur, the accident happened during the Industry Pool testing session.
The deceased were employees of Luxembourg-based Goodyear, who were testing the brand’s tires in Porsche. The driver of the car has been identified as Christian Frank, 39. The identity of the other occupant has not been made public.
According to reports, the crash took place at Tiergarten, a section of high-speed corners at the end of the Döttinger Hohe straight.
“We are deeply saddened that two Luxembourg-based Goodyear employees died in a car accident on a test track in Germany on August 9,” Goodyear GmBH said in a statement to Merkur. “We are supporting the local authorities in the investigation.”
Industry Pool is a session reserved for automakers and component suppliers to test and develop their products. This is when most of the prototypes are spotted on the track. The public session, known as ‘Touristenfahrten’, was cancelled followed the accident.
