Ford is targeting a sub 7 minute time for the 2025 Mustang GTD

Ford recently unveiled the 2025 Mustang GTD. Now, just moments after showcasing the car, Team Blue has now revealed that the Mustang GTD is expected to do a sub 7 minute Nurburgring lap time.

According to a media report, Ford is benchmarking the new GTD against a variety of cars. However the main two rivals include the Porsche 911 GT2 RS and the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series. This means, if Ford plans to rival these aforementioned track cars, it will have to significantly beat the 7 minute mark.

For starters, the GT2 RS clocked the Nurburgring in 6:41 minutes back in June 2021. However, this car had Manthey Racing upgrades. Meanwhile, back in 2017, the car had clocked 6:47.3 minutes. Meanwhile, the latest GT3 RS manages a respectable 6:49.32 minutes around the Ring.

While Ford has not yet taken the actual car to the track, simulations done by the carmaker reveal that such a sub 7 minute time is doable. If this manages to work out, the Mustang GTD could be the fastest Ford around the Nurburgring.

Ford is optimistic about 2025 Mustang GTD

The American carmaker has packed in over 800 horses inside the 2025 Mustang GTD, and is hence is the fastest Mustang ever.

Team Blue  is also offering optional stuff that will make the car even more lighter and increase the downforce as well. Buyers can do this by carbon fiber parts at the front and back. Furthermore, the aero package adds front flaps which are hydraulically controlled, an underbody tray as well as an active rear wing. Buyers can also configure their car with forged magnesium wheels.

Ford Mustang GTD expected delivery date

Ford has not yet revealed full details of the Mustang GTD. That said, the American carmaker has scheduled it to go into production by late 2024. Meanwhile, the carmaker might price the Mustang GTD around the US$ 300,000 mark. Also, Ford will have a selection process for potential buyers just like the GT.
