Ford has been developing its Le Mans hypercar for a while. Now, the brand has released a video showing the first start-up of its V8-powered machine.
The engine is based on Ford’s familiar Coyote architecture but heavily reworked into a 5.4-litre race unit. It’s paired with a hybrid system, as required by LMDh regulations.
As a result, the total system output is capped at 671 horsepower. Not outrageous on paper, but in endurance racing, balance and efficiency matter just as much as outright power.
The chassis of the Ford Le Mans hypercar comes from renowned French constructor Oreca, a name well known in racing circles. That partnership should give the car a strong technical foundation right out of the box.
Next comes the real test. A full-track development program kicks off in August, with the car set to run across several European circuits. It’s here that six factory drivers—Logan Sargeant, Mike Rockenfeller, Sebastian Priaulx, Matt Campbell, Nick Yelloly and Tom Blomqvist—will get their first proper taste behind the wheel.
