BMW M4 Almost Crashes at 174 MPH; ABS saves the day

The derestricted stretches of the Autobahn are among the few places in Europe where you can do crazy speeds without landing up in jail. These are mostly straight, wide open highways, but it is tricky and often dangerous to drive fast in traffic.

This Youtuber was testing out a BMW M4 on an 8-lane section of the Autobahn, when he had a heart-in-mouth moment. He was in the fast lane doing around 280 kph (174 mph) when suddenly a Mazda pulled out in front of him. The driver slams on the brakes, barely avoiding a massive crash. According to the driver, the car decelerated from 174 mph to 87 mph in just 3 seconds. It’s a great example of how ABS can save your a**.

The F82 generation BMW M4 was powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter, 6-cylinder engine that produced 425 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. This particular car is equipped with the 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. Ceramic brakes are an option on the M4, but we’re not sure if this car was equipped with the superior anchors.

The new M4 gets a more powerful motor. The 3.0-liter, twin-turbo unit puts out 473 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. In the M4 Competition, the engine is tuned to 503 hp and 479 lb-ft. It is claimed to do 0-60 mph in just 3.8 seconds.
