Blizzak LM005 Tyre by Bridgestone Wins Winter Tyre Test

With the weather conditions changing quickly, now is the time that motorists need to start preparing for driving during the winter months. Winter tyres are one area that needs to be considered and Auto Express recently carried out tests to determine what the best winter tyres are for this year based on a few different factors.

A Clear Winner

According to Auto Express, the Blizzak LM005 tyre by Bridgestone is the best winter tyre for 2020. The tests were comprehensive and involved assessing a wide number of winter tyres in snow, wet and dry conditions testing key factors such as wet braking, wet handling, dry braking, noise, rolling resistance and price. The Blizzak LM005 emerged top of the pile in the tyre’s debut year (it was launched at the beginning of 2019 and too late for last year’s test).

Perfect for British Motorists

The Blizzak LM005 was the only winter tyre with an A ranking and performed exceptionally well with 3 wins and 2 runner up positions – this saw it come a clear step ahead of all except the Hankook Winter i*cept R2. The Blizzak LM005 did not actually perform too well in snow coming in 8th in both snow handling and braking, but it scored so strongly elsewhere that it still came out on top. Additionally, the fact that Britain primarily sees rain and not snow in winter makes it the perfect choice for British motorists this winter.

The Benefits of Winter Tyres

Winter car tyres from leading suppliers should certainly be considered by motorists because they can make a big difference to your entire life in the winter months. Winter can be a stressful and dangerous time to drive even for experienced motorists but winter tyres can make it much easier, less stressful and safer.

There is a misconception that winter tyres are only worthwhile in countries with a lot of snow and ice. While they certainly are important to have in these places, they are also designed to provide a safer experience with better grip in wet and cold conditions much like the UK gets in autumn and winter.

Winter tyres are better suited than regular tyres for difficult conditions because they have a tread pattern with more grooves to displace water and provide more grip and they are also made from a different material that allows them to stay soft and supple even when the temperature plummets. They are also designed to vibrate while moving which helps to shake off snow and any other debris which would ordinarily get clogged.

Now is a smart time for motorists to make the switch to winter tyres so that they can drive safely and with more confidence during the winter months. This year, the Blizzak LM005 by Bridgestone is the best option according to Auto Express and a tyre which certainly looks well-suited to manage the British winter.
