Audi R8 to bow out with a street legal R8 GT3 track car
The Audi R8 will soon be discontinued. The automaker plans a final swansong in the form of a hardcore, track-focused version.
According to reports, Audi will soon introduce a track-ready R8 based on the GT3 race car. More specifically, it will be a street-legal version of the R8 GT3 Evo 2 and will be limited to 100 units.
A prototype of the upcoming R8 GT3 was recently spotted at the Nurburgring. The fact that Audi didn’t even bother covering the test mule in camouflage suggests that the unveiling could be just around the corner.
The spy images reveal an aggressive-looking R8 featuring a single-piece front clamshell, a large splitter and a pair of canards. At the rear, it has a massive top-mounted spoiler, wider fenders, a large diffuser, and a roof scoop feeding the engine.
The street-legal R8 GT3 is expected to be powered by a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GT3 version packs 569 hp and 406 lb-ft of torque. So, we can expect similar performance from the road car.
