Aston Martin DBR22 concept to spawn an ultra-low volume speedster
Aston Martin has unveiled a new open-cockpit design concept called the DBR22. The new limited edition speedster will be presented during the 2022 Monterey Car Week.
The Aston Martin DBR22 draws inspiration from the iconic DBR1 and DB3S open-cockpit sports cars. It has been designed in-house at Q by Aston Martin. The car features a completely new body created from a minimal number of body panels. The front grille incorporates a unique carbon fibre design, while the bonnet features a horseshoe vent seen on recent models like the V12 Vantage.
At the heart of the Aston Martin DBR22 is a 5.2-liter V12 twin-turbo engine that produces 715 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It is paired with an 8-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Aston claims that the monstrous motor catapults the car from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and to a top speed of 198 mph.
The DBR22 features a 3D-printed rear subframe, which is said to be lighter and stiffer. It uses unique front and rear shear panels, offering improved torsional rigidity.
While the new DBR22 is still a concept, Aston Martin has confirmed that it will build a few cars for select customers. However, the exact production number is not known.
