Mercedes F1 driver Kimi Antonelli had an embarrassing moment while trying out the new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupe ahead of the US Grand Prix. His teammate George Russell was right beside him in another AMG GT and got a front-row seat to the mishap.
A video circulating on social media shows Antonelli apparently preparing to perform a burnout. There was just one small problem: the car was in reverse rather than drive. When he accelerated, the AMG shot backwards and slammed into a wooden wall with a loud thud.
Antonelli quickly selected drive and went ahead with the planned burnout. He then looked towards the camera to check whether the car was okay. Russell, meanwhile, found the whole incident hilarious and couldn’t resist pointing out the obvious: you need to select drive to move forward! Thankfully, Antonelli’s mistake made for an amusing moment rather than a more serious incident.
The range-topping AMG GT Coupe is no ordinary performance car. Mercedes claims it produces 1,153 hp and 1,475 lb-ft of torque, with a 0-60 mph time of just two seconds.
