The Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung has been spotted on public roads near the Nürburgring. A social media video shows the aggressive coupe emerging from what appears to be a Mercedes facility before carefully making its way onto the road.

Said to be out for a test drive, the driver takes things slowly at first, seemingly avoiding scraping the low bodywork. Even at modest revs, though, the deep V8 exhaust note makes its presence known.

Unveiled last month and limited to just 30 examples, the road-legal coupe is based on the AMG CLE but sheds around 170 kg through extensive use of carbon fibre. It also gets a unique wide-body design, aggressive front end, fixed rear spoiler and wider wheels and tyres.

Power comes from a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 646 hp and 627 lb-ft. A nine-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to the rear wheels through an electronically controlled limited-slip differential. With launch control, the CLE 646 can accelerate from 0-124 mph in 11.4 seconds and reach 193 mph.
