Formula 1 world champion Lando Norris took the McLaren W1 for a spin at Portugal’s Portimao circuit, and the British driver came away impressed by its grip, especially at high speeds.
Norris was joined by McLaren Racing CEO Zak Brown and other team members for the track outing. After pulling out of the pit lane, he took a moment to appreciate the cabin before switching to manual mode and pushing the hypercar through the corners.
The McLaren W1 looked right at home on the circuit, with Norris throwing it into turns before blasting past Brown on the start-finish straight. After completing his lap, he admitted the car had considerably more grip than he had expected. He also made it clear he would love to get one of his own.
The W1 is powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 paired with an electric motor, producing a combined 1,258 hp and 1,340 Nm (988 lb ft) of torque. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. It can sprint from 0–100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 2.7 seconds and reach 350 km/h (217 mph).
