The new Porsche Mission S could become an interesting addition to the brand’s supercar lineup, and one of the reasons for that is that customers may eventually have a choice of how they want to drive it.
Speaking at the Mission S launch event in New York City, Porsche CEO Dr. Michael Leiters highlighted the flexibility of the new mid-engined platform. He said it could support both pure combustion and hybrid powertrains, while transmissions could range from a traditional manual to a PDK-style automatic.

“Customer demand will define what we build on this platform,” Leiters said.
For now, Porsche isn’t saying when the Mission S will become a production car. What we do know is that models using this platform will sit above the 911, bringing greater performance and a higher price.

Visually, the concept is long, low and its wide body is shaped around a mid-engine layout, while an active rear wing, lightweight wheels and cooling fans inspired by the legendary 917 add plenty of oomph.
Power, performance and pricing remain under wraps. But the possibility of a manual version makes the Mission S even more interesting.
