The baby Mercedes G-Class might arrive sooner than many expected. Mercedes-Benz Group CEO Ola Källenius recently said the smaller brother of the OG G-Class could reach the market in less than 24 months.
That puts a potential launch around 2028, assuming the timeline holds. Källenius also revealed that his phone was flooded with messages when Mercedes first announced the smaller SUV, suggesting there is already plenty of interest in it.
Several prototypes have been spotted testing, while more details about the model are beginning to emerge. Unlike the full-size G-Class, the baby G will reportedly be built in Hungary rather than Germany.
Mercedes initially planned it as an electric-only model, but the company has reportedly changed direction. Hybrid versions are now expected to join the EV, giving buyers more choice.
The electric model could use an 85-kWh battery and dual motors, with a claimed range of up to 450 miles. Hybrid versions could borrow technology from the latest CLA, although the baby G may receive more power.
