The combustion-powered Porsche Boxster and Cayman are not coming back. While Porsche never officially approved a new petrol-powered version of either car, the company has now made it clear that the future of both models is electric.
Porsche Head of Corporate Communications Matthias Rauter explained that a combustion-engine 718 was never actually confirmed for production. So technically, the cars were never cancelled. The outcome, however, is the same for enthusiasts: there will be no new gas-powered Boxster or Cayman.

That is a shame because a modern combustion-powered 718 could have been one of the most interesting cars in Porsche’s range. The mid-engined layout and relatively compact size have always made these two models special.
Instead, Porsche is moving ahead with electric replacements. The electric Boxster and Cayman are expected to enter full production in 2028, suggesting their official debut could happen next year.

It’s these type of decisions that have got them in deep trouble.
I completely agree. I also think that same concept will be the death of jaguar. It’s too exclusive, to limited of an audience.
I hear what you are saying, but disagree. I am VERY interested in an electric Boxster and would put a deposit down to.orrow if I could. I know I don’t represent everyone, but there is definetly a market for these cars.
Good, it’s time for them to catch up to the rest of the automotive world. An EV Cayman at 50k would sell millions and would revolutionize the racetrack.
Catch up by ignoring what customers want?
