McLaren has spent years avoiding the SUV bandwagon that its competitor brands have already boarded. But that could soon change as the British supercar maker is reportedly preparing its first SUV model for 2028.
Known internally as the P47, the McLaren SUV is expected to feature four doors and five seats, giving the brand a much more practical model than anything currently in its range. Dealers have reportedly been shown a clay model, with the design described as larger than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.
Despite its size, the P47 is said to have a sporty silhouette rather than the conventional upright shape of a typical luxury SUV. Massive 24-inch wheels and heavily sculpted bodywork are also reportedly part of the design, giving it plenty of road presence.
The move would represent a major shift for McLaren. The company has so far resisted building an SUV, while rivals like Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin are offering high-performance SUVs, and Bentley and Porsche have been selling luxury performance SUVs for years.
