Lotus has launched the Emira 420 Sport in China. Billed as the most powerful and lightest version of the sports car yet, it carries a starting price of around 988,000 yuan ($145,000), with deliveries scheduled to begin in October.

Designed as a “track-grade road car”, the 420 Sport gets several aerodynamic and weight-saving upgrades. Its redesigned front cooling system increases airflow to the radiators, while improved brake cooling helps keep temperatures under control during harder driving.

The car also sits 5mm lower than the Emira Turbo SE. At 300 km/h (186 mph), the revised aerodynamics generate an additional 25 kg of rear downforce without adding drag.

A titanium exhaust and lightweight lithium battery help bring the standard curb weight down to 1,430 kg. An optional lightweight handling package can cut another 25 kg.

Power comes from AMG’s 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, producing 420 hp and 500 Nm (368 lb ft). The mid-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car uses an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, reaching 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds before topping out at a commendable 300 km/h (186 mph).
