We reported in July that a one-off McLaren F1 GTR is heading to auction, and it has been valued at a whopping $35 million. Now, the special supercar has been sold, and it fetched very close to the estimated price – $34.6 million! This is a new record price for a public auction sale of a McLaren F1, but shy of the off-market record.
This one-off McLaren F1 GTR flaunts its unique livery. It is finished in bold scarlet and yellow, inspired by 1990s pop art. This makes it one of the most recognisable F1 GTRs ever built. No other GTR looks quite like it.
Another special thing about it is that it was kept by McLaren before being sold in 1999 to Nick Mason of Pink Floyd. Since then, it has remained a prized piece in his collection.
Apart from that, this is one of only two short-tail F1 GTR prototypes and one of nine cars built to the 1996 race specification—the most desirable version.
