Reports suggest the next-generation BMW M3 Touring—internally known as G88—could arrive toward the end of the decade, potentially making its long-awaited debut in the US.
The new model is expected to sit alongside the upcoming M3 sedan (G84). While nothing is officially confirmed yet, growing speculation points to internal approval for a US launch. That wouldn’t be entirely surprising, especially considering the strong reception of the larger BMW M5 Touring.
Under the hood, BMW is preparing a revised take on its iconic inline-six. The next M3 is set to feature a “new type of six-cylinder engine,” likely an evolution of the current twin-turbo 3.0-litre unit. A mild-hybrid system is expected to be part of the package, helping meet stricter emissions rules without adding the bulk of a plug-in hybrid setup.
All signs point to an all-wheel-drive configuration as standard, paired exclusively with an automatic transmission. Performance figures remain under wraps, but expectations are high. It’s unlikely to dip below the 543 hp seen in the limited-run M3 CS Touring.
