A 1993 Mercedes-Benz G-Class was recently sold at RM Sotheby’s auction for $143,000. Besides being one of just 446 units produced, it also has had an interesting history.
This Mercedes-Benz 500 GE AMG was once owned by the Saudi royal family. It was ordered new by Saudi Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and was heavily customized to his liking.
The G-Wagon was painted in a special Avantgarde Green. It has wider fenders that house larger AMG alloy wheels. The interior is finished in black and grey leather with walnut wood trim and is equipped with automatic climate control, cruise control, heated front seats and an electric sunroof.
Under the bonnet of the 500 GE AMG is a 237 hp 5.0-liter V8 engine. This particular example has just 15,072 miles on the clock.
The 500 GE AMG was built at a time when AMG was not part of Mercedes-Benz but an independent tuning house. They had initially planned to produce 500 cars but ended up producing just 446 examples.
