Highly desirable Ferrari F40 ‘Jean Sage’ by Michelotto heads to auction in UK

Only a handful of cars carry the aura of the Ferrari F40, but this one? This thing is on another level. A highly desirable 1990 Ferrari F40, once owned by French motorsport figurehead Jean Sage, is now heading to auction at The Woodcote Park Auction 2026, in Epsom, Surrey, this July. It is estimated to fetch £2.7–£3.2 million (approximately $3.4–$4.0 million).

What makes this example truly special is its “non-cat, non-adjust” status. Delivered new via Charles Pozzi in Paris, the car was later returned for something far more serious. At Sage’s request, renowned Ferrari specialist Michelotto reworked the car in 1994 to a CSAI GT-inspired specification.

The changes weren’t cosmetic. The original 2.9-litre twin-turbo V8 was rebuilt with IHI special turbochargers and paired with a lightweight exhaust by Maurice Chabord. Output climbed to around 527 hp, with a massive 626 lb-ft of torque. Suspension and braking systems were upgraded, too, while weight reduction sharpened the car’s already impressive dynamics.

Despite all that, the car has been driven, showing 22,699 km (14,105 miles). That only adds to its appeal because it shows that this isn’t just a collector’s piece, it’s a machine that has lived well.
