Ford GT40-inspired restomod packs 800 hp V8 with manual gearbox

2 Min Read

Cape Advanced Vehicles has taken the legendary Ford GT40 and created a mad, mad restomod called CAV GT Mk II. It is an 800 hp monster that can be tamed with a manual gearbox.

Visually, the inspiration is pretty obvious. The low-slung stance, wide body, and race-bred proportions all point to Ford’s original Le Mans icon. But this isn’t a nostalgia piece. It comes with modern elements such as LED lighting, and it’s bigger too.

Built on a lightweight aluminium and carbon fibre structure, the GT Mk II has the heart of an Audi – 4.2-litre V8 – but heavily reworked. Twin centrifugal superchargers force-feed the engine, pushing the output to a staggering 800 hp at 7,800 rpm, with a screaming 9,000 rpm redline and 649 lb-ft of torque.

While this restomod comes with a 6-speed single-clutch semi-auto transmission as standard, Cape Advanced Vehicles is offering a dual-clutch transmission and even a proper manual gearbox as an option.

As for performance, the Ford GT40-inspired GT Mk II has all-wheel drive, adjustable suspension, massive Brembo brakes, and a screaming Inconel exhaust. No wonder it can do 0-62 mph in just 3.0 seconds, while its top speed is 204 mph.

  • Why would you ruin an iconic beautiful design with a larger, and definitely uglier redesign. This is a degraceful and failed attempt that completely loses sight of what made the original the way it was.if your actually going to restomod a gt 40, please actually have someone beyond age 8 actually do it.

    • If you look closely and note the clue the article gave, it’s an R8 chassis, with new front n rear.

    • If you’d ever tried getting into, or out of, a GT40, you’d understand the dimension growth.
Styling is subjective, but agree it lacks cohesiveness in this case.

  • How did they manage to make it look like ass?

The proportions are incredibly wrong. It looks like a GT40 body kit applied to a generic fwd coupe.

The front slumps off into an overbite, their are no hips. The greenhouse is as wide as the body. This is ugly.
